Staying at Schoolhouse

Schoolhouse Hotel offers a boutique stay unlike anywhere else in Dublin. Set within a beautifully restored 19th-century schoolhouse in the heart of Ballsbridge, the hotel blends historic character with contemporary comfort.

Guests can enjoy individually designed bedrooms, a welcoming GastroBar, complimentary parking, and a peaceful canalside setting just a short walk from Dublin city centre, the Aviva Stadium and Grand Canal Dock. With its rich heritage, warm hospitality and distinctive atmosphere, Schoolhouse Hotel offers a uniquely Dublin experience.

Check-in is from 3:00 PM, and check-out is by 12:00 PM. Early check-in from 10:30 AM and late check-out until 3:00 PM are available for a fee, subject to availability. Please contact us in advance to arrange this.

Yes. Our reception is staffed 24 hours a day, so our team is always available to assist with check-in, late arrivals or any queries during your stay.

Yes, complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, including guest rooms and common areas.

Pets are not permitted at Schoolhouse Hotel. However, accredited assistance and service animals are welcome. If you are travelling with a service animal, please let us know before your arrival so we can make appropriate arrangements.

Rooms

At Schoolhouse Hotel, we believe every guest should enjoy the same high standard of comfort. Rather than offering multiple room categories or upgrade options, all of our bedrooms are thoughtfully designed to provide a consistent boutique experience with the same quality furnishings and amenities.

Guests can choose from three bedding configurations:

  • Deluxe King – One king-size bed for up to two guests.
  • Deluxe Twin – Two single beds for up to two guests.
  • Deluxe Single – One king-size bed for single occupancy.

Yes. All guest rooms are fully air-conditioned and include individually controlled heating and cooling, allowing you to adjust the temperature for your comfort throughout your stay.

No. Our rooms do not currently include mini fridges. If you require refrigeration for medication or another essential item, please contact Reception and we will be happy to assist where possible.

Yes. Complimentary cots are available upon request, subject to availability, and are suitable for children up to approximately three years of age. One extra bed can also be added for an additional charge, subject to availability, and is recommended for children up to approximately 14 years of age.

The maximum occupancy for all rooms is two adults and one child.

All of our rooms feature either a window or patio access. As room allocation is based on availability, we are unable to guarantee a particular outlook. If you have a preference, please let us know before your arrival and we will try to do our best to accommodate your request.

Yes. Our Gastrobar offers a relaxed yet elegant setting for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our menus celebrate contemporary Irish cuisine, prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. During warmer months, guests can also enjoy outdoor dining in our leafy garden.

We recommend reserving a table in advance, particularly at weekends and during busy periods, to help ensure your preferred dining time is available.

Breakfast is included when you book one of our Bed & Breakfast packages. If you have booked a Room Only rate, breakfast can be added at check-in or during your stay.

Yes. Guests staying on a Room Only rate are welcome to add breakfast during their stay. Choose from our continental buffet or a freshly prepared Full Irish Breakfast served each morning in the Blue Room.

Yes. Non-residents are welcome to join us for breakfast, subject to availability.

Yes. We cater for a range of dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. If you have any allergies or specific dietary needs, please let us know in advance and our team will be happy to assist.

Booking & Reservations

Cancellation terms depend on the rate you book.

  • Guests booking directly with Schoolhouse Hotel can cancel most flexible rates free of charge up to 24 hours before arrival.
  • Advance Purchase rates are prepaid, non-refundable and cannot be amended.
  • Bookings made through third-party websites are subject to the cancellation policy selected at the time of booking.

A valid credit card is required to guarantee your reservation. Flexible bookings are pre-authorised 24 hours prior to arrival. Payment is normally taken at check-out, although guests may choose to pay on arrival. Advance Purchase bookings are prepaid in full at the time of booking. For security reasons, we are unable to accept card payments over the phone.

Accessibility

As a protected historic building dating back to 1859, Schoolhouse Hotel has some architectural limitations. While we strive to accommodate all guests wherever possible, we are currently unable to offer full wheelchair accessibility throughout the property. Please contact our team before booking and we will be happy to discuss your individual requirements.

Schoolhouse Hotel is located approximately 1 km from the Aviva Stadium, around a 10–15 minute walk. It’s an ideal location for guests attending sporting fixtures, concerts and major events.

Our boardroom, the Dean & Woodward Suite, is fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology, perfect for private meetings, video conferences, and workshops. It accommodates up to 16 people. Let us help tailor the space to your needs.

Schoolhouse Hotel is pleased to welcome live acoustic music as part of your celebration, including vocals and acoustic guitar, creating a warm and intimate atmosphere.

As we are both a boutique hotel and a protected historic building, we are unable to accommodate DJs, amplified live music, microphones or other sound amplification equipment. However, our Blue Room is equipped with a surround sound system, allowing you to play your own curated playlist during your event.

We typically serve a seasonal 3-course meal or platter menus. We are open to small changes to the menu to make your event as special as possible. However, all changes must be confirmed by our Head Chef. Please let us know of any alterations and we can see if it would be possible.

Yes. Our meeting spaces are equipped with audiovisual facilities suitable for presentations, video conferencing and business meetings. Please let our Events Team know your requirements in advance so we can ensure everything is prepared for your arrival.

Complimentary parking is available for event guests, subject to availability. Spaces are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis during your event, while overnight parking is reserved for hotel residents.

Weddings

Yes. We offer a selection of seasonal wedding menus, and small menu alterations may be possible, subject to approval by our Head Chef. We are also happy to accommodate dietary requirements wherever possible.

While we do not have a dedicated wedding coordinator, our experienced Events Team will guide you throughout the planning process and assist with every aspect of your celebration. We are also happy to recommend trusted local suppliers, including florists, photographers and cake designers.

While we are not able to host civil ceremonies on site at the hotel itself, we are located just a short walk from the Dublin Registry office, making Schoolhouse an ideal venue to host your wedding reception after a civil ceremony.

Yes. Schoolhouse Hotel is delighted to accommodate both the wedding couple and their guests, subject to availability. With 31 boutique bedrooms on site, your guests can relax and enjoy the celebrations without needing to travel afterwards. If you require multiple rooms, our team will be happy to discuss accommodation options and group bookings with you.

Little ones are welcome, but we do ask that they’re closely supervised at all times. The building dates from 1859 and its original doorways, steps and layout are part of its charm, so it isn’t ideally suited to very young children. We’re also unable to host children’s entertainment.

Parking & Transport

Yes. We offer complimentary on-site parking for hotel guests, subject to availability. Parking operates on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved in advance.

No. Complimentary on-site parking is available for hotel guests on a first come, first served basis. As spaces are limited, parking cannot be guaranteed or reserved in advance.

Please note that the hotel entrance and guest car park are not located directly on Northumberland Road. While our Gastrobar fronts onto Northumberland Road, guest access and parking are located to the rear of the building via Estate Cottages alongside the Grand Canal.
